Oxford Innovation

Oxfordshire Science Festival

Next March sees the return of the annual Oxfordshire Science Festival. The Festival gives an opportunity for organisations from within the County to engage the public in their work through lectures, discussions, debates and interactive activities. The event is running from 6th- 21st March 2010, and offers children through to adults, the chance to learn more about subjects that are of relevance to them. The event will include areas of interest to professional scientists and to people with a curiosity towards Science, but is targeted mostly at “Joe Bloggs” to come down and explore areas of topics such as climate change, inheritance, music and sport.

To celebrate Oxfordshire Science Festival, Oxford Innovation is running an Innovative Ideas Competition, in association with NACE (National Association for able Children in Education). The competition is for students from key stages 1 to 5, who are based in Oxfordshire. Ideas have to fall under one of five categories which are: Innovation in Communications Technology, Innovation in Sports Technology, Innovation Home and Work, Innovation Transport and Innovation Green Technology. Entrants can compete in teams with a maximum of four members or as an individual. The competition will be divided in three different age groups, which are Key stage 1 and 2, key stage 3 and 4 and key stage 5. Competitors will be judged on originality and viability, final design and the quality of the presentation of their ideas with an emphasis on originality and viability.

The deadline for applications is noon on the 31st December 2009. Successful applicants will then have to submit the idea brief by 31st January 2010. The final presentations will be made to the judges and take place during the Festival at the Said Business School, where the winners of each age group will be announced. Winners will receive a trophy, prizes and recognition in the local and national press, for themselves and their school.
